Article 5: Pastoral Staff A. Selection of pastoral staff 1. Search committee. In the event that a pastoral staff search is required, a congregational meeting for the purpose of selecting a search committee will be called. The search committee will: a. consist of at least five members b. report jointly to the administrative team and elders c. assume responsibility for preliminary evaluation of pastoral staff candidates d. present recommendations to the administrative team and elders 2. Formal Call. A pastoral staff candidate will be given a call after a congregational meeting is held at which at least 85% of the voting members approve a resolution of call. 3. Resignation Staff members should give six weeks notice prior to the effective date of resignation. The administrative team may recommend a shorter or longer time period if they deem such action to be wise. 4. Accountability of church staff. a. Accusations against a member of the pastoral staff will not be considered unless submitted in writing and supported by two or three witnesses, in accordance with I Tim. 5:19-20. b. Should it be proven that a member of the pastoral staff has erred in doctrine or conduct, he shall be charitably admonished by the elders with the goal of restoration. If, in the opinion of the elders, a pastoral staff member should be terminated, a resolution will be brought forward to the congregation. The pastoral staff member will be dismissed immediately following the approval of a dismissal resolution by a 2/3 majority of the voting members. Any severance package may be negotiated by the administrative team and elders and would be subject to congregational approval. c. The elders shall submit verified reports regarding error in doctrine or conduct to the Committee on Ministerial Standing of the Evangelical Free Church of America. B. Senior Pastor 1. Responsibilities The senior pastor will equip the leaders of the church to do the work of ministry according to Eph. 4:11-12. In this capacity he will fulfill as the Lord leads to: · Provide spiritual leadership and direction (vision & mission) for the church · Teach & preach · Work in cooperation with other leaders to plan and schedule worship services · Work in cooperation with other leaders to carry out the mission of the church · Pursue personal spiritual development & growth in his own life · Develop leaders · Counsel · Supervise church staff · The pastor is a member of the elders · The pastor is an ex-officio member of all boards, teams & committees of the church. C. Associate Pastor(s) 1. Responsibilities · Work in cooperation with pastoral staff, administrative and ministry teams to develop programs and plans consistent with area of ministry focus. · Work in cooperation with pastoral staff and other leaders to carry out the mission of the church · Pursue personal spiritual development & growth in their own life · The immediate supervisor of the associate pastor is the Senior Pastor. D. Other staff 1. Responsibilities · Work in cooperation with pastoral staff to develop programs and plans consistent with area of ministry focus. · Work in cooperation with pastoral staff and other leaders to carry out the mission of the church · Pursue personal spiritual development & growth in their own life. · The immediate supervisor of all other church staff is the Senior Pastor. |
